G’DAY MATE!
Currently on the plane on my way to Belgium – it is 2023 kick-off time for the women’s team. I’m a bit jet-lagged since it is only 40 hours we came back home from Australia and the Worlds. Australia is a long way, but we are obliged to invest in presence in global cycling. This time it was costly for Europe, next time it will be the other way around.
Where to start? I travelled with my long-time mentor and chairman, Vegar Kulset. We had found time in the calendars to travel for good talks, long discussions and front-row seats to some of the best cycling performances we have seen in Norway.
The strategy breakfast mornings at Lily J became a highlight. Be assured, we will continue to invest in our brand and in the sport. We believe there is huge unexploited potential for Uno-X Mobility and its long-term investments in cycling. Vegar says it best: «cycling is the very heart of sustainable mobility».
Wollongong delivered a great world championship. Compact, nice atmosphere and great competitions. And the Aussies, they’re one of a kind. Sincere, enthusiastic and very friendly.
Sporting wise I will leave my attention to the performances of Norway. Two gold medals for Tobias and Søren, and one additional bronze for Søren. Achievements we only can dream of suddenly became reality. Riders were celebrating, management crying and the moments in the UCI Lounge is just a big blur of happiness. This is why I love sport.
Thanks to our performance coach, AG Ensrud, for all details covered in the planning ahead, during, and after the races. Your contributions were key to the success we experienced. You deserve flowers, champagne and chocolate from the Feds.
This was my 5th worlds. I hope to experience many more. I am sure that Glasgow will be superb. New stories are to be to told. The Italian corner in the UCI Lounge will still be there, the rainbow tears will be the same, and we will all continue to celebrate the ups and down of international cycling. Thanks Wollongong, we will follow your vision and Ride for Life!
Tobias and Søren – you are now a part of the legacy. Enjoy it.
